"FRAGILE! It must be Italian!"

It's no leg lamp, but it's still a "major award!" We've been awarded BEST PUNK BAND at the 2012 Silicon Valley Music Awards! Pretty neat! Thanks to Kid Kris, Steve, Shitbird, Jake, Craig, Bobby and Andy for helping make this happen. We've been at it for 7 years and it's nice to be recognized for all the hard work we've been putting in. Thank you everyone who voted for us! Wah-BAM!

Jonny Manak and the Depressives have made it to the silver screen! Today, the NITRO CIRCUS 3D the movie came out in theaters! Well, that pretty neat, right? I mean, those dudes are crazy as hell and I love watching them nearly kill themselves in each scene. What could make it better?  Our song YOU BRING ME DOWN off of our last album, I am not a bum... I'm a JERK! is featured in it!!! Wah-BAM!!! Spread the word! Go see the film!

It's been a while since I've updated this blog and lots of exciting stuff has been going with music and my family. I've found a ripping bass player Bobby Wilcox who just moved here from Ventura and we're already recording tracks for a new EP (maybe even a full length) called "Wah-BAM!" Fun fact: Bobby was D.D. Ramone's guitar player on one of his last tours before he passed. Neat! He's also played with Flogging Molly, The Street Walkin' Cheetah's and The Motels. We've posted some cassette 4 track demos of the new songs on our soundcloud page. All we need is a drummer and we can play shows again!

(welcome aboard Bobby)

It's a boy! Jonny Danger Manak was born 8 pounds 10 ounces Friday May 11th 2012 so this transition of band members couldn't have been timed better. I'm taking time to be with my beautiful wife Mandy, my little princess Zoey and little JD.

I completed my recording studio. Yeah, I got a fully functional protools recording studio now called CUP O' PIZZA so I can be a more efficient ghost writer, recording artist and family man. CUP O' PIZZA has a live room, mixing room and two iso booths! WOOHOO!!!

(CUP O' PIZZA under construction in this pic)

I went into the COMPOUND Studios and remixed our latest full length "I am not a bum... I'm a JERK!" for vinyl removing the organ tracks because it took away from the rawness of the songs and overpowered the entire mix. Jimmy Arceneaux revamped the album art and Mike Wells did some analog mastering techniques to fatten it up. I'll be rereleasing it digitally and on black 12 inch vinyl once the band starts playing out again. Most likely this fall.

(revamped art proof for vinyl)

That's basically what's been going on the last 6 months. Life has never been so busy, scary, uncertain and fun. I love playing music, I love my family and I love writing music for TV/Film. Life gets better every day! Wah-BAM!

"That's Gonna Leave a Mark" featured in MTV's Ridiculousness

Damn, shit's popping off! Remember I told you about ghost writing some songs for dickhouse? Well, they've already used one of the tracks called "That's Gonna Leave a Mark" in the season two opener of RIDICULOUSNESS with special guest Justin Bieber!?! YEAH! HA! Fast forward to the 19:22 mark.

Jonny Manak signs with Uranus Music

Jonny Manak has signed on as a ghost writer for Uranus Music which the music division of dickhouse productions (the folks that bring you MTV's Jackass among many other funny ass shows and films). They wanted to have punk/rock/surf songs on hand that they'd own so they can place them in their various TV shows and Films. So stoked to be writing music for my favorite production company! So far a 5 song EP has been recorded called "SONGS FOR URANUS" which is available at all digital music stores NOW. Here's a sketch of the artwork painted by Grady Hord.
